In our search for excellence, we have from the outset, laid great emphasis on quality straddling program architecture and course design based on the ‘learning outcomes’ approach; as well as faculty with innate teaching and research capabilities and a harmonious blend of academic and corporate experience. We have adopted a combination of innovative pedagogical techniques that attempt to trigger one or more of the multiple intelligences that human beings possess, in order to maximize individual learnability. But above all, our approach is to ensure that ‘learning is enjoyable’.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
– Nelson Mandela
Welcome to the portals of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Bangalore.
Six (6) years ago, in November 2008 we began operations with a program for executives and an enrollment of 20 students; today we have over 300 students across various programs in our School of Business Management (SBM) in the PGDM and Management Program for Executives (MPE). In subsequent years, we propose to add other schools including the School of Commerce, School of Economics and School of Engineering at our new campus at Bannerghatta which is fast coming up and should be ready in the next 15 months.
The long term goal of the School of Business management at Bangalore is “to be an institution of excellence for learning & collaborative research in management with a deep commitment to people”. We have an eminent Board of Studies comprising senior professors from IIMs as well as Industry leaders who collectively guide us to impart quality and rigour in our academic offerings, while at the same time catering to contemporary needs of industry.
The program curricula revolves around the three pronged KSA (Knowledge – Skills and Attitude) approach in which considerable emphasis is given to soft skills, preparing participants to tackle competition, employers, colleagues, clients and the world at large. In our quest to be contemporary we have introduced an Analytics specialisation stream in the PGDM program and are the only B-School in India to do so. We also have a sprinkling of value added certification courses and offerings like ‘Indian Values in Management’ and ‘Music and Arts Appreciation’ that are beyond the conventional and confer a cutting edge dimension to the knowledge and skills that participants acquire. The ‘We Care’ program dovetailed with a course on ‘Community Awareness and Responsibility as an Executive’ goes a long way in sensitisation and inculcating ethics and a sense of social responsibility in every student. Thus, the PGDM academic offerings are dovetailed with well-crafted Placement and Career Advisory support services that endeavour to transform an individual’s demeanour from a ‘student’ with little/no business exposure to an ‘executive’ who is industry ready and socially and ethically responsible.
The MPE program aims to transform executives with a unidimensional mindset to a good general manager and business leader. The program’s popularity has considerably increased over the years as evidenced by the increasing batch size from around 20 initially to a size of 50 in Batch-15. Many MPE graduates have graduated to leadership roles and some have become successful entrepreneurs.
Research is an area close to the heart of our faculty members and we are constantly striving to enhance the research output both in terms of academic papers and case studies. We are confident that our interface with industry, the government and social sector will enable us to enhance the scope of collaborative research.
Our students have been making a mark in various competitions in finance, strategy, marketing as well as cultural activities all over India and obtaining coveted honours in competition with IIMs and other top B-schools. This is a matter of great pride and satisfaction to us.
In 2014, we embarked on our journey of obtaining international accreditations and hope to make substantial headway in the coming years to be globally recognised for quality and excellence. We are confident that in the years to come, our participants would do well for themselves and their employers and in turn embellish the image of their alma mater. At the same time, we trust that our corporate engagement and collaborative research activities will prove to be mutually beneficial for industry and for NMIMS, Bangalore.
