INTRODUCTION

The Analytics industry has grown manifold in recent years. Organizations are increasingly adopting Analytics to find solutions to critical business issues. Businesses apply Analytics to target customers, optimize supply chain, accelerate product development, develop promotional plan, optimize portfolio etc. In the past decade, the field has taken giant strides in coverage and sophistication straddling across multiple sectors such as FMCG, Retail, BFSI, Pharma, Telecom, Infrastructure and myriad areas in the government.

India has achieved a unique position in this global development as it has built a reputation for its excellent talent. It has attracted numerous global majors to setup Analytics operations in India which is in addition to Analytics process outsourced to Indian third party service providers. There has also been a significant growth in the adoption of Analytics in Indian organizations too. Thus, India is today recognized as a global hub for Analytics.

India currently has about 90,000 Analytics professionals. The projections made by a number of industry watchdogs suggest that the demand for Analytics professionals is conservatively estimated to grow at 8 percentage per annum in the foreseeable future.  This requires fresh talent as well as experienced professionals with knowledge of Analytics.

NMIMS Bangalore has carved out a niche in Analytics by providing Analytics courses for the past few years. Starting with the current batch, it is offering Analytics as a specialization for PGDM students; a first in India. The successful placement of this batch in a short time period is evidence that the program has been well received by industry. The institute would therefore like to offer this niche program to working executives desirous of upgrading their skills or seeking a change in career path.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The program will equip participants to:

  • Understand and articulate a business problem and convert it into a viable Analytics question;
  • Apply Data visualization for exploratory analysis and communicate effectively to diverse audience;
  • Evaluate various analytical approaches and select the most appropriate for the given problem;
  • Build Analytics solutions and assess their effectiveness;
  • Apply knowledge and develop solutions across a range of functional areas (Marketing, Finance, Operations & Supply chain, HR) and across industry verticals (BFSI, Retail, Manufacturing, Services).

The course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge in the area of Business Analytics. It will impart training on tools and techniques that are applied for building Analytics solutions. Relevant areas in Statistics, Operations Research and Data mining will be covered. Participants will get hands-on exposure to Analytics tools like SAS, and R. The pedagogy will revolve around a problem solving approach based on real life industry examples and case studies.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

The program is intended for:

  • Graduates with minimum 2 years work experience and minimum 50 percentage marks in the graduating examination;
  • Professionals with a quantitative bent of mind;
  • Professionals desirous of upgrading their qualifications and skill sets;
  • Professionals desirous of a career change;
  • Those who want to be part of the global Analytics revolution

 Candidates will be short-listed for interview based on their past academic record, quality of work experience.

CURRICULUM AND DELIVERY

The courses are designed keeping in view the future roles the participants would be intending to pursue. There will be 13 courses aggregating to a total 36 credits, a workshop and a final project. The on-campus course work is over 390 hours plus about 30 hours for project work. Participants are expected to put in equivalent time in preparation, assignments etc.

BA

The courses will have lectures, case discussion, lab sessions, assignments, group tasks and projects. The participants will be evaluated through home assignments, projects and exams. Most courses will have projects and presentations that are evaluated. 

Final project will start during Trim 3 and will continue for a month after the end of Trimester. It is expected to be an industry project at the place where the participant is currently employed. 

The program duration is 12 months. It will be conducted in the classroom at NMIMS Bangalore. Classes except SAS Workshop will be conducted over the weekends. There will be classes on all Saturdays and few Sundays during 9:00am to 5:40pm (7:20pm on certain days). 

Successful candidates will be awarded Certificate in Business Analytics by NMIMS University.

FACULTY PROFILE

A pool of faculty members comprising Full-time and Visiting faculty will handle various courses. They have excellent Academic credentials being graduates from IITs, IIMs, IVY League Schools in USA etc. The faculty team has a rich blend of industry and academic experience. Some of them are currently working as senior members in leading Analytics firms in Bangalore. Short profiles of few of the faculty members are provided below.

Academic Experience: 5 years

Industry Experience: 14 years

He has experience with companies such as GENPACT, iGATE and Symphony Marketing Solutions in Business Analytics area. This included CRM, Marketing, and Process improvement areas. He has previously taught at NITIE, Mumbai and TAPMI, Manipal.

Krishna Kumar

Masters in Mathematical Statistics, Diploma in Computer Software Applications

Chief Analytics Officer & Director – The Rainman Consulting

Industry Experience: 25 years

Experience with companies such as Reliance Insurance, Reliance Telecom, Computer Science Corporation, OgilvyOne and Wunderman Worldwide. Proven delivery capability in CRM Analytics across the globe handling clients such as Citibank (Germany), Cendent Group (US), Discover Cards(US), Reliance Insurance (India), Shop Direct(UK) etc.

Expertise in the use of SAS suite of products, SPSS and Bayesian Networks. Capability to handle large datasets, often exceeding millions of customers and their transactions/interaction.

Manohar Rao

B.Tech.(IIT-Madras), PGDM(IIM-Ahmedabad)

Business Consulting

Academic Experience: 10 years

Industry Experience: 34 years

He has 34 years experience in Industry with organizations like CyberTech, the SANMAR group, and NELCO, and currently owns a consulting organisation, Pharos Consulting Pvt. Ltd. He has experience in the CRM, Sales, Product management and Information systems functional areas, and has also held general management and profit center responsibilities. He has previously also taught at BIM, IBMR and ISME.
